Assalamualaikum...
Before i graduated in April this year, few friends & relatives asked me as to whether i'm interested in joining the judiciary or legal services (as in working for the Govt as prosecution officer or legal counsel).
my answer, a simple No.
i hv my utmost respect for those who are in & who will be joining the judiciary or legal services. but for me, i hv my simple reason for not opting to join the two. salary wise, yes, both offer great figures with benefits & of course with the leaves allocation which is salivating, esp for person like me who is holiday-craze! ^_^
my reason, i want to practice law.
i want to hv a taste of being a practising lawyer. i know & am very much aware that to be one, i hv to endure the fact that i hv to start from scratch, and for starter, to be a chambering student which is not easy. and when the chambering ends, start from scratch again to be a legal assistant to senior practitioners. see, byk scratching kan?
and for the record, i am not a strong person (mentally). i tend to hv few breakdowns, esp during the past 7 months. i never thought that chambering would be this difficult, esp when u are learning so much but life is not fair right? and i think, life doesnt hv to be fair. we should search for the fairness & not to blame life.
i WANT to practice law. again.
i want to know how it feels to hv a client comes to u with all sorts of problem & doesnt know where to start with.
i want to know how it feels to put the pieces together.
i want to know how hard it is to read & read & read hundreds or even thousands of cases just to hv ONE good authority to support your case.
i want to know how it feels not to hv enough time to file this & that, to draft pages of cause papers & submissions, and how it feels to stay up late just for doing those things.
i want to know how it feels to dress in black & white everyday and march to the court without knowing that that day...will you win, or will you lose.
i want to know how it feels to hv the judicial officers screaming & barking at you whenever you do something wrong, or whenever you fail to please them.
and i want to know how it feels to win a case. and how it feels to lose a case.
i know, sounds lame enough for THOSE who are NOT interested to practice law.
i wont have good cash, but i will have enough for my family & my living, insyallah.
i wont have people looking up at me, and some maybe even shun me, but i know i'm going to help a lot of people, insyallah.
but most importantly, i will have my self-satisfaction. one day, if i live long enough to be old (insyallah), i know i will smile & say "i did the right thing."
so readers, ask yourselves, what do you really want to do, or to be.
because i know, i already hv my pilihan hati.
alhamdulillah. =)
